What is a Purple Mango?
A Purple Mango refers to the Kastooree or Kasturi mango, a unique variety native to Indonesia, specifically the Kalimantan region. Botanically known as Mangifera casturi, these mangoes are distinct for their deep purple color, a characteristic that has earned them the nickname ‘Blue Mango’ in the United States. Unlike the more common yellow or orange mangoes, Kasturi mangoes offer a different visual appeal while still providing the tropical flavors associated with mangoes. It’s a unique twist on something wonderful making it just a little more special in our thoughts.
